Westbury Park owner Phil Ibbotson is looking forward to Perth’s 2yo racing season with resident sire A Lot (USA) who is all set to recapture the form that saw him crowned Champion WA First-Season Sire in 2022.
A Lot (USA) was initially based in the Great Southern but the tyranny of distance meant his numbers decreased to just a half-dozen 2yo starters last season. He was transferred to Ibbotson’s West Pinjarra property in 2023 and that move will commence paying dividends as from next month when 2yo racing returns at Ascot.
In the meantime, Ibbotson has announced A Lot (USA) will stand for a reduced service fee of $4,400 (inc GST) this season. “A Lot’s current 2yo crop is the first bred here. They’re good-legged athletes and there’s double the number than the crop bred the year before he arrived here.”
Among A Lot’s early black-type stars were A Lot Of Good Men who won three city juveniles for Trevor Andrews before developing into a classic winner of the G2 WATC Derby (2400m).
And A Lot flyer Sir Dreamalot was named WA 2YO Of The Year after winning the LR Supremacy Stakes (1000m). He’s trained on for Josh Krispyn and was last seen winning the Swan Draught Hcp (1200m) at Belmont on May.
The first winner from A Lot’s half-dozen 2yo runners in 2025-26 was Marcos and he can open his 3yo account in the MC Polytrack Plate (1400m) at Belmont on Saturday. He has opened a $5 second favourite following a luckless second to Espresso Time last Wednesday.
Stewards reported he blundered at the 125m mark and wasn’t tested over the concluding stages. A post-race vet exam found no abnormalities and he will back up after a ten-day turnaround for trainer Luke Fernie.
A Lot (Tapit) has built an above average 16% black-type performers to winners strike-rate and he stands at Westbury Park alongside newcomer Straight Charge ($6,600) and My Admiration ($4,400).
